The edgy musical comedy, “Urinetown the Musical” continues to receive critical acclaim at Theatre 29. Reporter Rebecca Havely has more…
Theatre and film critic, Jack Lyons attended a performance of “Urinetown the Musical” last weekend and says in The Desert Star Weekly, “The cast of enthusiastic performers give it their all in bringing to life this satirical comedy musical that pokes fun at just about everything.” The farce takes place in the future when a 20-year drought forces folks to have to pay a fee at a public amenity to do their private business. The hero of the play, Bobby Strong, leads the poor in a rebellion. Of the hero, Lyons says, “Leading the good people’s side is energetic and earnest Chris Fleischman.” He goes on to say that Dennis “Easy” Boos, the play’s sly narrator, has “nice timing” as Officer Lockstock. And “The company of players appear to be having a wonderful time on stage. When they’re happy entertaining the audience, the audience enjoys the show even more.” As the word-of-mouth spreads that “Urinetown the Musical” is better than its awful title, houses are selling out. So reserve your seats now.
