UPDATE: WIDESPREAD VERIZON OUTAGE HAS BEEN RESTORED

As of 3:53 this afternoon, it appears that all cellular and internet services, emergency services, as well as ATMs and credit card networks are back online. According to San Bernardino County Fire Division Chief John Chamberlin, a trunkline was struck in the Palm Springs area at approximately 10:15 this morning. This affected all Verizon landline and cell service, including 911, local banks, and ATM networks for several hours. It was originally anticipated that repair time could be as much as two days, but according to Division Chief Chamberlin, a permanent repair is already in place.
