A Joshua Tree man was arrested Sunday after deputies determined he was an unregistered sex offender. Deputies say a resident near Highway 62 and Quail Springs Avenue in Twentynine Palms saw two men getting ready to set up an encampment. When the resident returned a few hours later, the men were still there, and deputies were called about 2:40 p.m. The deputy determined that one of the men, James McCann, 57, was an out-of-compliance sex offender. James McCann was arrested for investigation of being an unregistered sex offender and was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $25,000.
