The Jaws of Life had to be used to rescue a 43-year-old man who was injured during a single-vehicle rollover crash early this morning in Yucca Valley. According to Fire Captain Jay Dimoff, about 2 a.m., John Strickland, 43 rolled his white Suburban at the intersection of Joshua Lane and Joshua Drive, blocking both lanes of traffic. It took firefighters about 20 to 25 minutes to cut Strickland out of the vehicle, after which, he was taken to Yucca Valley airport where he was flown to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs with moderate to severe injuries. The Sheriff’s Department is investigating the crash.

On Friday, another man was severely injured during a single-vehicle crash in Yucca Valley. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant James Porter, Juan Bernabe-Nunez was driving too fast on Joshua Lane about 10:30 p.m. Porter said Bernabe-Nunez hit a dip in the road, which was filled with water from the rain storm, lost control, and his car went off into the wash where it rolled over, trapping him inside the vehicle. Juan Bernabe-Nunez suffered severe head trauma and was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs.
