Two rescued from “island” in flooded wash in Joshua Tree

Two people were stranded on an embankment in a wash amidst rushing waters on Sunday afternoon (August 20), before they were rescued and received medical attention.

Just after 4 p.m., San Bernardino County Fire say they responded to a swift water rescue in the area of Sunset and Hilltop in Joshua Tree. During a search of the area conducted alongside Deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station and officers from the California Highway Patrol, they found an adult male and adult female located on a shrub covered island in the flood-impacted wash. 

Neither victim was suffering from injuries, and they were carried out of the wash through the flood water individually, at which point they were taken to Morongo Basin Ambulance. The male was take to Hi Desert Medical Center for treatment for hypothermia.
