Two local adult soccer teams will represent our Morongo Basin in competition this weekend. Reporter Mike Lipsitz says, no matter who wins, we will have the championship team…
This Sunday is a big day for the Cuervos and Latinos. If you’re not familiar with these two Yucca Valley teams, it’s because they play on the Palm Springs men’s soccer league. Out of the many teams in the league, it is these two from the Hi-Desert that have risen to the top and will face each other in the championship finals. The players, their friends, and families from Morongo Basin will travel down the hill for the big face-off on Sunday. This final game of the tournament kicks off at 10 a.m. on field 5 in Demuth Park on Mesquite Road, just west of Gene Autry Trail in Palm Springs. Only one other time have two teams from Morongo Basin competed against each other in league finals; that was in 2005. Whether Sunday’s final match goes to the Cuervos or the Latinos, the tournament champions will be bringing the trophy back home to the Hi-Desert.
