Two Morongo Basin residents were arrested by Sheriff’s Deputies on December 20, 2018 on multiple felony charges, including kidnapping and robbery. On Monday, December 17, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 65000 block of 4th Street in Joshua Tree at around 4:20 a.m. for a report of a suspicious female. Deputies located and contacted the victim, who reportedly had visible injuries to her face and was disoriented. The victim told detectives that they were at a home in Morongo Valley when one male; later identified as Jeremy Harper, 32, of Joshua Tree; and one female; later identified as Samantha Rodriguez, 32, of Morongo Valley; offered to give them a ride home. Once the victim was in the vehicle, Harper and Rodriguez reportedly drove the victim out into the desert off Sunfair Road in Joshua Tree where they confronted, physically assaulted, and robbed the victim before leaving the victim in the desert. Detectives from the Morongo Basin Station were able to positively identify both Harper and Rodriguez and arrest warrants were obtained. On December 20, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Specialized Enforcement Division, executed the arrest warrants simultaneously at Rodriguez’s home in the 49000 block of Conejo Drive in Morongo Valley and Harper’s home in the 4500 block of Avenida Del Sol in Joshua Tree. Samantha Rodriguez was arrested for investigation of felony kidnapping, robbery, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, and driving under the influence of a controlled substance. Jeremy Harper was arrested for investigation of felony kidnapping and robbery. Both suspects were booked into the West Valley Detention Center with their bail set at $200,000 each.
