TWO MORONGO BASIN MEN ARRESTED AFTER HIGH-SPEED PURSUIT THROUGH YUCCA VALLEY

A reported shoplifting in Yucca Valley Wednesday lead to a high-speed pursuit through residential neighborhoods and the arrest of two Morongo Basin men. About 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the Big Lots store in Yucca Valley for a report of shoplifting in progress. When Deputies arrived, the suspect, later identified as Douglas Lane, 37 of Joshua Tree, was seen loading merchandise into the trunk of his car. When Deputies arrived, Lane fled the scene with his passenger, later identified as Jeremy Magness, 25 of Yucca Valley. The Deputy attempted to intercept the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. Lane led the Deputy on a 2-mile pursuit through residential neighborhoods at speeds of over 70 mph. Lane finally stopped the vehicle and was taken into custody. Deputies recovered more than $600 worth of stolen merchandise from the trunk of Lane’s vehicle. Douglas Lane was arrested for investigation of shoplifting and felony reckless evading, booked into the West Valley Detention Center, with his bail set at $100,000. Jeremy Magness was arrested for public intoxication and for a felony no-bail warrant, booked into the West Valley Detention Center, with his bail set at $15,000.
