Two F/A-18 jets collided while flying over the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms last week. A Marine Corps spokesman said the Hornets landed safely after the “mid-air incident” February 28. No personnel were injured. While the Marine Corps did not specify the extent of damages to the jets, it has classified the incident as a Class A mishap, meaning the jets sustained more than $2 million worth of damage to one or both of the aircraft; a source told Z107.7 News that the nose on one aircraft and the wing on the other were damaged. The Hornets, which were attached to 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing in Miramar, were participating in close-air support training when the accident happened. No other information is available. The incident is under investigation.
