Two Marines assigned to the 1st Marine Division out of Camp Pendleton, California, sustained small arms gunshot wounds while conducting a live-fire range during a scheduled training exercise aboard the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Sunday, May 6th, 2018. 2nd Lt. Samuel Banks, a spokesman for the Division, said both Marines were evacuated by air ambulance to receive proper medical care for their injuries. At this time, one Marine has been released from the hospital and the other Marine remains hospitalized and is in serious condition. Officials are investigating the circumstances of the accident currently.
Banks added, “Military training is an inherently dangerous task and the 1st Marine Division takes every precaution to ensure the safety of our training. Our commitment is to ensure that our training is as safe as possible. The training we conduct ensures our readiness to respond to any task we are assigned.”
