TWO MARINES INJURED WHEN HIT BY A VEHICLE IN TWENTYNINE PALMS THURSDAY NIGHT

Two Marines were injured when they were hit by a vehicle on Adobe Road in Twentynine Palms Thursday night. According to the Sheriff’s Department, Tim Turner, 22, who was under the influence of alcohol, was walking in Adobe Road near Samarkand Drive about 9 p.m. Turner’s companion, Julio Serrano, 21, attempted to get Turner out of the road. Michael Ambriz, 25, of Twentynine Palms, was driving north on Adobe Road at 40 to 45 miles per hour. As Ambriz approached Samarkand, he was unable to stop in time and hit Turner and Serrano. Ambriz stopped immediately and waited for rescue personnel. Both men suffered head injuries, and one also had a broken arm. The men were alert and able to talk to paramedics. One man was flown to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs; the other was taken by ground ambulance to Hi-Desert Medical Center. Ambriz was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
