Two lost hikers located in Pioneertown Preserve on Saturday (3/16)

UPDATED 10 a.m. A search and rescue effort successfully located two women lost on a Pioneertown trail Saturday night (March 16.)

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call regarding the lost hikers at just before 7:30 p.m.

The Sheriff’s Department reported that the two women heard wildlife, which caused them to run in an unknown direction, after which they got lost.

The hikers were reported missing near the Chaparrosa Spring Loop in Pioneertown, near the Pioneer Mountain Preserve. The report was initially called in by the boyfriend of one of the missing women.

Search efforts were active for more than ninety minutes, and included Sheriff’s Deputies, park rangers, and Search & Rescue volunteers.

The two women were able to provide GPS coordinates to search efforts, and were eventually located with assistance from helicopters from the County Sheriff’s aviation unit.

Neither of the women were injured.
