A man was killed yesterday in an attempted car jacking, when two Caucasian males shot him thru the driver’s window. The car ended up off the embankment of the parking lot of Town Center Mall. The two suspects fled the scene, escaping in a previously stolen Chevy Impala. A CHP officer spotted the vehicle on Highway 62 and pursued the suspects from Yucca Valley to San Bernardino, where the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed. Sergeant Trevis Newport explains what happened next. “The driver of the suspect vehicle began firing at police officers as they were exiting their cars. Police officers returned fire, striking the first suspect.” The first suspect was killed in the shootout. While fleeing the scene, the second suspect shot at officers who returned fire, seriously wounding him. A CHP officer was also struck in the leg by gun fire. Both suspect and the CHP officer were taken to Loma Linda Medical Center for treatment. The CHP officer’s injury is not life threatening.
