Two Joshua Tree men were arrested, accused of shooting a shotgun at an apartment. Deputies were called to the 61800 block of Verbena Road in Joshua Tree just before 6 p.m. Tuesday because neighbors heard a loud argument followed by gunshots. Deputies determined that John Delaney, 26, and Darrell Mathis, 42, had driven to the location in Mathis’ car to fight the residents. During the fight, Delaney produced a shotgun and fired at the apartment. The family inside the apartment was not injured during the shooting. Delaney and Mathis then fled to their home in the 4800 block of Avenida La Espana Daga in Joshua Tree, where deputies located them about an hour later. John Delaney was arrested for investigation of shooting at an inhabited dwelling and was booked at the West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $250,000. Darrell Mathis was arrested on suspicion of shooting at a dwelling and as an accessory, and was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $250,000.
