TWO INJURED, ONE SEVERELY, IN SUSPECTED DUI TRAFFIC COLLISION WEDNESDAY MORNING

Two people were injured, one severely, in a suspected DUI traffic collision in Yucca Valley Wednesday (August 18). According to a Sheriff’s press release, deputies responded to the intersection of Highway 62 and Mohawk Trail in Yucca Valley just before 9 a.m. for a report of a traffic collision. Investigators determined that Juan Herrera-Garcia, 48, of Yucca Valley ran a red light at Mohawk Trail in a 2001 Ford F350 and continued eastbound on Twentynine Palms Highway through the intersection. Herrera-Garcia’s vehicle collided into the passenger side of a 2005 Acura sedan driven by Lillian Esquibel, 19, of Yucca Valley traveling south on Mohawk Trail through a green light. Esquibel sustained an injury to her left leg. Esquibel’s passenger, a 17-year-old juvenile female, sustained major injuries and was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment. Deputies determined Herrera-Garcia was driving under the influence of alcohol. Juan Herrera-Garcia was arrested for investigation of DUI causing bodily injury and was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $100,000.
