Two Morongo Basin residents were injured in a crash on Highway 62 near Desert Hot Springs Thursday morning. Investigators from the Desert Hot Springs Police Department say about 830 a.m., a Yucca Valley man—who was not identified—rolled his vehicle off the highway after sideswiping another vehicle on the southbound lane, south of Mission Creek Road. He suffered major injuries and was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. The male driver of the other vehicle—identified only as being from Morongo Valley—received only minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Southbound Highway 62 was closed to all traffic for hours while investigators were on the scene.

And a second crash happened in Morongo Valley while authorities were investigating the Desert Hot Springs crash. About 1:20 p.m., a semi-truck traveling westbound on Highway 62 drove into several other vehicles that were stopped in traffic due to the earlier crash. There were no injuries in the second crash.
