TWO HIKERS RESCUED BY HELICOPTER BEHIND PIONEERTOWN

Two hikers were rescued Sunday by a Sheriff’s aviation unit after they became lost and weak in the Pioneertown Preserve. The hikers called for help about 2:10 p.m. to say that one of them was diabetic and wasn’t able to make it back down from Chaparrosa Peak. They had a little bit of water, but no food. The Sheriff’s helicopter 40 King found the hikers and transported them to a landing zone near where their car was parked. First responders remind hikers to bring plenty of food and water with them, as well as a charged cell phone.
