TWO HELICOPTERS RESCUE INJURED HIKER IN JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK

An injured hiker was rescued in Joshua Tree National Park Friday. According to the Sheriff’s Department, Grant Myatt, 20, of Murrieta, was rock scrambling when he fell about 20 feet from a large boulder and suffered moderate injuries and needed immediate medical attention. The Sheriff’s Department sent two helicopters to the scene about 3:15 p.m., who were assisted by fire crews who were on the scene. Due to the remote location and the hiker’s injuries, rescue personnel determined Myatt needed to be hoisted out. Two Sheriff medics were lowered from the helicopter to help with the rescue. Myatt was secured into a rescue basket and hoisted up to the helicopter, followed by the medics. He was treated inside the helicopter as he was flown to a local trauma hospital where he was in stable condition.
