TWO FIRES IN MORONGO VALLEY IN 10 HOURS

Morongo Valley firefighters were called out to two fires in 10 hours. About 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night, a small debris and vegetation fire (about 10 by 10 feet) was reported in an open field near Bella Vista, north of Highway 62. Fire Captain Brennain Gorter said the strong winds caused the flames to reach five to six feet high. Gorter added the cause is suspicious.

Morongo Valley firefighters were called to the second fire on Canyon Road about 5:15 Wednesday morning. The fire was a small animal shed filled with hay bales. Cows were unharmed by the fire. Fire crews were able to confine the blaze to the shed and hay. The cause is undetermined. CalFire in Yucca Valley assisted with both fires.

Gorter reminds residents to call 911 in emergencies and NOT to call the fire station.
