Two people were killed in a traffic collision Thanksgiving morning on Old Woman Springs Road, and the details and location of the crash are nearly indentical to a fatal crash a few days earlier.
The California Highway Patrol reports that on Thursday (November 23) at around 11 a.m., a 58 year-old man from Phoenix was driving an Audi northbound on Old Woman Springs Road, south of Olivine Road. A 72 year-old man from Wofford Heights was driving a Lincoln southbound on Old Woman Springs Road, north of the Audi. The CHP says that the driver of the Audi crossed over the solid yellow line into the southbound lane, colliding with the front of the Lincoln. After the crash, the Lincoln became engulfed in flames.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities are being withheld until their families can be notified. A passenger in the Lincoln, Pamela Alvarez, 67, also from Wofford Heights, suffered major injuries and was transported by helicopter to Desert Regional Medical Center.
UPDATED 11/27 2:30 p.m. The San Bernardino County Coroner’s office has identified one of the deceased as William Stuart, 58, from Phoenix, Arizona.
This crash is still under investigation. Alcohol and/or drugs did not appear to have been a factor.
On November 20, a Jeep Cherokee driving southbound on Old Woman Springs Road north of Olivine Road in Landers bypassed another vehicle over double yellow lines, colliding with a Kia and killing the driver and passenger. The driver of the Jeep, Josie Stijepovic, a 39-year-old female from Helendale, was treated for major injuries. Alcohol and drugs were not considered to be factors in the November 20 collision.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that the November 20 collision may have been caused by drugs and/or alcohol. The CHP updated their statement, ruling out drugs and alcohol as a factor in the collision.
