TWO ARRESTS IN SEPARATE INCIDENTS

Two men were arrested in separate incidents over the weekend, accused of carrying a dirk or dagger. About 9:30 p.m. Friday, deputies were called to a store in the 57500 block of Twentynine Palms Highway in Yucca Valley where employees had detained a woman for shoplifting. The woman’s boyfriend, Shane Willis, 46, of Yucca Valley then came into the store and began threatening the staff. Willis left in a dark-colored SUV eastbound on the highway before deputies arrived, but he was spotted and detained. After an investigation, Shane Willis was arrested for carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $25,000.

On Saturday night, a deputy was on routine patrol on Commercial Street in Joshua Tree about 8 p.m. The deputy saw what appeared to be a drug deal near Valley View Street, as a person inside a silver vehicle passed something to Jeremy Stevens, 31, of Joshua Tree, on a bicycle next to the vehicle. When Stevens realized he’d been spotted, he took off into a nearby mobile home park. Stevens was detained after a short pursuit. During a search the deputy located a clear baggy filled with a white crystalline substance that appeared to be methamphetamine and a 10-inch metal file altered to have a sharp, pointed end, inside his pocket. Jeremy Stevens was arrested for possession of a dirk or dagger, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $25,000.
