TWO ARRESTS FOLLOWING HIGH-SPEED PURSUIT IN TWENTYNINE PALMS SUNDAY

Two people were arrested early Sunday morning following a high-speed pursuit through Twentynine Palms. According to a Sheriff’s report, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle just after midnight Sunday near Highway 62 and Yucca Avenue in Twentynine Palms. During the stop, the truck, driven by Anthony Aguirre, 33, of Riverside, took off at a high-rate of speed, estimated at more than 100 miles per hour. The pursuit lasted for more than six minutes before Aguirre and his passenger abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot near Mesa Drive and Desert Heights in the unincorporated area of Twentynine Palms. Deputies, with the assistance of California Highway Patrol officers, located Aguirre hiding in a dirt field. The passenger, Kassy Thayer, 34, of Temecula, was found hiding in an unlocked car. Anthony Aguirre was arrested for investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle and felony evading. He was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $100,000. Kassy Thayer had several misdemeanor warrants and was cited and released.
