TWO ARRESTED FOLLOWING ARGUMENT IN YUCCA VALLEY

A Yucca Valley man suspected of firing a gun during an argument, and a woman accused of hiding him in her home were both arrested Monday night. According to a Sheriff’s report, Steven Hernandez, 38, was arguing with a resident near David Avenue and Indio Avenue in Yucca Valley about 7:30 p.m. Witnesses told deputies that Hernandez threatened the victim, and then fired two shots from a handgun at the victim, before fleeing to a home in the 6300 block of Linda Lee Drive. Deputies searched the residence and found Hernandez hiding in the attic. Steven Hernandez was arrested for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $50,000. Karen Duarte, 31, of Yucca Valley, was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to a crime for harboring Hernandez inside her home. Karen Duarte was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with her bail set at $25,000.
