A Twentynine Palms woman has been named as Military Spouse of the Year for the Combat Center, and was named Wednesday as one of 18 finalists for the military branch spouses by Military Spouse magazine and Armed Forces Insurance. She is competing against two other Marine spouses for the honor of USMC Military Spouse of the Year. Voting for the branch level spouses begins today, Monday, February 20, and results will be announced February 24. Managing editor Tami Roleff says Jessica Rudd is one busy woman…
“I am a woman of many hats.”
Jessica Rudd isn’t kidding. The 30-year-old woman is a former Marine who is one of 18 women competing for the Military Spouse of the Year, and one of three for the Marine Corps’ military spouse.
“People think, ‘Oh, you’re just a stay-at-home-mom, just a military spouse. But I’m active in different physical fitness groups in the area, I homeschool my kids, I work, and I am also a family readiness assistant for my husband’s unit.”
Rudd loves being a military spouse and thinks it offers so many opportunities for families.
“I’m thankful for my experiences that we’ve gotten to have in the Marine Corps; hike the trails in Joshua Tree National Park, or to see both oceans…. My husband and I just try to make the best of every place we go.”
Moving up from one of 170 initial contestants to one of 18 was based on online voting by the general public and judging based on her accomplishments. Voting for the branch-level military spouse of the year honor is today.
“Monday, vote like crazy. That’s when the voting will open and it’s just 24 hours.”
