A Twentynine Palms woman fell victim to another phone scam Friday. The victim told deputies that she got a phone call that her name had been used on a car rental in El Paso, Texas. Police stopped the car and found more than $250,000 in cocaine inside the vehicle, and now there is an arrest warrant out for the woman and she had to pay to get the warrant removed. The woman purchased $1370 in gift cards and gave them to the suspects, who immediately used the gift cards. The Sheriff’s Department reminds residents that no government agency will ask for you to pay a bill or pay off an arrest warrant using gift cards or prepaid money cards. If you receive a call like this, hang up and call the Sheriff’s department.
