TWENTYNINE PALMS WOMAN ACCUSED OF TAKING RENT FOR AN APARTMENT SHE DIDN’T OWN

A Twentynine Palms woman was arrested Monday, accused of taking rent money for an apartment she did not own. Deputies were called to the 6400 block of Mountain View in Joshua Tree about 3:45 p.m. by a resident who said she gave $3,600 in rent and deposit to Destiny Johnson, 34, who she said posed as the landlord for the apartment. Johnson said she used the money to pay her landlord for her own past due payments but denied posing as the landlord of the other apartment to the victim. Destiny Johnson was arrested for investigation of theft by false pretenses, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with her bail set at $25,000.
