The Twentynine Palms Water District board met in regular session last night. Even in the face of serious questions about their Urban Water Management plan, they approved it. In their last piece of fire business, after over 50 years as the County takes over the fire department July 1, the board formally commended Fire Chief Jim Thompson. At last night’s meeting of the Twentynine Palms Water District, the board approved the Water Availability Assessment, unchanged from the current fiscal year. Also last night, the board approved both a proposed budget and compensation plan and the district’s Urban Water Management Plan. That vote followed testimony from members of the Transition Joshua Tree Water Group who objected to the plan referring to a seven-page letter they submitted to the district last month. It described the plan as “lacking on many levels” and called much of the basic information “skewed and questionable.” But with the state’s July 1 deadline looming, directors passed the plan while expressing that the 300-page plan is a living document that may be adjusted. Turning to fire business, the board commended Chief Thompson for his 20 plus years of service, and the retiring fire chief thanked the district and staff for their support.
