Sacramento, sewage, and the chromium-6 standard are all up for discussion at tonight’s 6 p.m. meeting of the Twentynine Palms Water District. Here is reporter Mike Lipsitz to help sort it out…
City Manager Frank Luckino will offer an update on the prospect of a joint wastewater treatment facility between the City and the Marine Base. Also tonight, the board will consider formation of a Legislative Committee tasked with monitoring and influencing legislation out of Sacramento. And in a related matter, the District will decide on use of an outside consulting firm to assist with legislative monitoring. Turning to chromium-6, directors will hear an update on the state’s relaxing of that drinking water standard to a level consistent with the federal Environmental Protection Agency. The change comes as a financial relief to the water district and will allow two wells previously mothballed due to chromium-6 levels to be put back in service. Those items and others are in addition to routine items on the consent agenda. Tonight’s meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the District Office on the south side of Hatch Road in Twentynine Palms.
The annual meeting of the Twentynine Palms Water District Financing Corporation will meet at 5:30 p.m. just prior to tonight’s regular board meeting. Election of officers, statement of investments, and discussion of future projects and related debt requirements are on the agenda.
