While we all use septic systems, most of us don’t think about how to take care of them to keep the system and the aquifer healthy. The Twentynine Palms Water District is offering some tips on the care and proper use of septic. Reporter Taylor Thacker joins us…
Failing septic systems risk the health of our groundwater and can cause costly damages to personal property. To help prevent a failure, avoid washing fats, oils, or greases down your sink drains. Collect and dispose of these items in your trashcan. Fats, oils and greases can also be found in sauces, dressings and soups, so dispose of these items in the trash by wiping them down with a paper towel before rinsing dishes in the sink. Conserve water to reduce the volume of water flow to your septic system. For more information about how to avoid septic system failure, go to www.29palmswater.net.
