Last night, the Twentynine Palms Water District met in a special meeting to discuss raising water rates. After much discussion, a conclusion was not reached and the action on raising rates was tabled until the next meeting in November. The Directors want to find the cheapest increase that will still support the needs of the Water District. During the regular meeting of the Water District, three applicants were interviewed for the empty board seat. Applicant Carol Giannini was selected and will begin next month. Regarding the Water District’s upcoming meetings: since there are holidays around the time of the meetings in November and December, the meetings have been moved up one week to November 19 and December 17. On the Fire Department side, November 2 will be “change your clock, change your battery” day. This day is to raise awareness to change the batteries in the fire alarms. Fire Chief Jim Thompson said it’s a good idea to take the time to change the batteries, clean the smoke alarms, test them, and plan escape routes in case of fires with the family.
