The Twentynine Palms Water District Board, who changed their mind and retained responsibility for fire protection after first ceding it to the City, met last night. Managing editor Tami Roleff said they took the first steps to eventually place a fire tax on the ballot…
The Twentynine Palms Water District Board of Directors named five residents to a citizens’ advisory committee last night, to develop recommendations for a potential special tax ballot measure to maintain the city’s level of fire protection. The committee members are Mary Reeves, Adam Lunn, Antonio Jimenez, Larry Bowden, and Randy Leazer. In other fire news, Chief Jim Thompson was congratulated on 20 years of service with the fire department. The directors also heard some slightly good news; the district had anticipated a loss of $240,000 this year, but learned the cash flow projection for the year isn’t quite as bad as originally expected. The Water District is projected to end the year “only” $175,000 in the red.
