In high school news, the Twentynine Palms varsity Ladycat volleyball team beat the Yucca Valley in Trojans in four sets yesterday (25-13,25-13, 21-25, 25-21).
Coach Melissa McGivern said sophomore Gianna Bilderain had one ace serve. Sophomore Mya Chacon served it up hot with four ace serves and one kill. Junior Journey Platzke had one ace serve, one kill, and 10 assists. Sophomore Sadi Rantzow served up four ace serves and had five kills. Senior Jhordan Stanley had one ace serve, five kills, two assists and two solo blocks against the Trojans. Senior Amanda Mohn was all over that net with nine kills and 12 assists. Senior Riley king lead the team with 11 kills. The Ladycats are now 4-3 in league and host Banning on Thursday.
The Twentynine Palms junior varsity volleyball team beat the Yucca Valley Trojans in two sets, (25-15, 25-16).
Shakinah Dowell had one kill. Jaydn Bauer had two assists. Leah Engesser and Itzel Solorio each had one ace and one kill. Zemira Mosqueda had four assists and one kill. Gabby Wunderlee had one assist and three ace serves. Bella Salcido had one kill and three ace serves. N’Taiya Youso was all over the net with three kills and one ace serve. The junior varsity team is now 6-1.
Some Trojan highlights during the sets were freshmen Leilani Liechti and Carly Brimhall with three and two kills respectively. Sophomore Paige Van Hulten contributed with two kills and three assists while junior captain Brianna Etter had six assists. Freshman Desiree Loya defended the backcourt, nabbing nineteen digs, followed by Etter, junior captain Amanda Cruz, and sophomore Peyton Cressy with 10 digs a piece.
Coach Celeste Hilderbrand said, “The Trojan team looks forward to a rematch against Twentynine Palms in October at their last match of the season. The team would appreciate any support at our next home match against Coachella Valley on Thursday, September 26 in the Trojan gym at 3:15 p.m.”
