TWENTYNINE PALMS TRACK TEAM COMPETES IN DEANZA LEAGUE FINALS

The Twentynine Palms High School Track and Field team traveled to Desert Mirage High School to compete in the De Anza League finals CIF qualifying meet. Coach Ronda Lockett-Morton said 23 athletes represented the Wildcats.
Top performances were turned in by KJ Magwood-Morton who ran a season best 43.3 seconds in the 300m hurdles and repeated as the De Anza League Champion.  
Another key victor, sophomore Adam Mapuatuli earned two personal records in the throws. In the shot put he had a three-foot improvement, with a 46 feet 11.25 inches heave, good for fourth place and a qualifying mark. In the discus, he earned second place with a 133 feet 7 inches throw.
Sophomore Shaniah Newby won the 200m with a time of 26.26 seconds to claim a De Anza League championship and was barely edged in the 100m with a personal record of 12.95 seconds, both qualifying marks.
Other qualifiers included:  Spencer Walton (1600m), Roy Rathbun (800m), Selemara Mapuatuli (discus and shot put), and Liana Ruiz (shot put).  The girls 4x100m relay consisting of Jhordan Stanley, Alexis Soster, Chenoa Walker, Shaniah Newby, and Courtney Ogle also qualified with a third-place mark of 52.97 seconds.
Next up for the team will be the CIF preliminary meet held at Carpinteria High School.
