Depicting civic history, desert scenery, local sports and our beloved Marines, the murals of Twentynine Palms have become a popular stopping point for locals and tourists alike. The latest addition to the city’s “Oasis of Murals” will be revealed during a dedication ceremony on Friday, May 14, at 1 p.m. and the public is invited to attend.

The Morongo Basin Healthcare District will host the ceremony for the 27th mural to be added to the list, this one depicting Kenney Drug Store and its owners, Pharmacist Ed Kenney and his wife, Margaret. The Kenney’s opened for business in 1939 and ultimately operated in three different locations.

The ceremony will take place at the Morongo Basin Community Health Center at 6380 Split Rock Ave. Muralist Tim O’Connor, also a resident of Twentynine Palms, will be on hand to speak on his creation, along with city councilmembers and the Twentynine Palms Historical Society.

No RSVP is required. For more information call Joe Ruddon, director of community program development, at the Morongo Basin Healthcare District, at 760-820-9218.
