The buzz got even louder last night on day 2 of a three-day strategic planning workshop in Twentynine Palms. Foremost on the agenda: how to complete Project Phoenix, a $20 million plan to dramatically remake the city’s commercial corridor downtown.
The City Council has some major decisions to make regarding the project; first whether to scale it down to fit the $10 million currently available, or look for more funding. And second, just what to include to get the best bang for their buck.
On Wednesday, they heard several suggestions ranging from ferrying tourists between Project Phoenix and Joshua Tree National Park, to providing free community Wi-Fi. Other ideas included adding a multipurpose facility, library, vocational training center, veteran’s clinic and theater.
Tonight, the Council will meet again to try and put it all together in a plan for the future. As usual, the gathering starts at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers on Adobe Road.
