The first of three strategic planning meetings for the City of Twentynine Palms were held last night. Reporter David Haldane says public safety was front and center…
A three-night strategic planning workshop by the Twentynine Palms City Council got off to a spirited start Tuesday with a larger-than-expected crowd. At the top: a lively discussion on public safety, especially local crime. The surprise: Since 2011, it has marginally decreased!
That, according to a report by Captain Jeff Joling of the San Bernardino County Sherriff’s Department. Other reports pertained to firefighting and animal control. Additionally, the Council discussed community facilities and infrastructure – especially roads – with the city’s public works supervisor, parks superintendent and water district.
Tonight’s agenda will continue with a look at economic development including Joshua Tree National Park and Project Phoenix, as well as issues pertaining to medical care, livability, youth, education and recreation.
Finally, on Thursday, city officials will attempt to put it all together in a plan for the future. The meetings happen at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers on Adobe Road.
