TWENTYNINE PALMS SEEKS COMMUNITY INPUT ON NEW PARK

The City of Twentynine Palms is asking the community for input on a new 17-acre park now in the planning stages. Residents can share their ideas online or at an upcoming community meeting. Reporter Heather Clisby has details…

Residents of Twentynine Palms are being asked to submit ideas for a new park being planned on a 17-acre parcel behind Theatre 29. The city is applying for a grant through the Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program (SPP) and a key requirement is community input – a stipulation of Prop 68.

Community outreach meetings will be held inside at the air-conditioned Theatre 29, 73637 Sullivan Rd, on the following dates and times:

Thursday, August 20, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Friday, August 28, 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Saturday, August 29, 8 a.m. – 10 a.m.

The city has also created an online survey to gather residents’ ideas. To participate, visit the city’s website, 29palms.org, and check under the Announcements tab on the home page, or on the City’s’ Parks and Recreation Facebook pages. The 22-question survey will be up through September 7.

Additionally, the City will re-submit a modified grant application for expansion of Knott’s Sky Park. Community outreach meetings were held last year and residents contributed ideas for the parks’ expansion design. More outreach meetings are in the works.
