TWENTYNINE PALMS PLANNING COMMISSION TO DISCUSS PEDDLING ORDINANCE

The Twentynine Palms Planning Commission meets tonight. Reporter David Haldane says the commissioners will discuss whether to impose restrictions on hawking and peddling in the city…

If you’re a peddler, hawker or street vendor in Twentynine Palms, your life may be about to get harder. The city’s Planning Commission meets tonight to study ways of avoiding conflict between those who sell their wares on the street and such future public events as farmer’s markets. Among the options being considered: increasing restrictions on street vendors, limiting the times and locations in which they operate and even prohibiting hawking altogether.
The study session is in response to a request by City Council that the Commission take a look at the issue in light of the planning for Project Phoenix. Tonight’s meeting gets underway 6 p.m. at City Hall on Adobe Road.
