Led by Community Services Director Randy Councell and Community Development Director Travis Clark, the Morongo Basin Active Transportation Plan was presented to the Twentynine Palms Planning Commission as a supplement the Master Plan that had been filed in 2014.

Covering the entire Morongo Basin, the plan reviewed existing conditions, land use policies, transit connectivity, pedestrian/bicycle infrastructure, collision analysis and detailed future goals. Councell made clear that while the city has several pedestrian and bike trails, one of the plan’s major goals was to connect all the loops with a priority on a trail that leads from the Combat Center to Joshua Tree National Park. The commission voted unanimously to file the plan.

Also noted, the rising popularity of the Park to Park Bike Ride from Knott’s Sky Park in Twentynine Palms to Key’s View in Joshua Tree National Park. Already, there are 200 cyclists registered for the April 28 event, and just 15 percent are locals.
