TWENTYNINE PALMS PLANNING COMMISSION REVIEWS CODES; ABANDONED VEHICLES AND NUISANCES

Abandoned vehicles, public nuisances: Does the Twentynine Palms City Development Code treat them adequately? Dan Stork highlights some points pondered by the City’s Planning Commission at its meeting last night…
The 17th study session in a comprehensive review and revision of the Twentynine Palms Development Code concentrated on abatement rules for abandoned vehicles and public nuisances. Here are some of the concerns that were raised by commissioners: If someone unknown dumps wrecked or dismantled vehicles on your property, and someone else complains to Code Enforcement about it, who should pay for the cleanup? How should a dismantled vehicle be stored in order to avoid complaints? If the wind blows junk onto your property, how is responsibility for cleanup determined? May you store construction equipment on your own residential property? Should rules against using a recreational vehicle or tent for a living space be made more explicit? When does this become a public nuisance? For most of these questions, the Commission asked staff to suggest wording tweaks. Coming up in future sessions: parking and signage rules.
