The Twentynine Palms Planning Commission gathers this evening to review several appeals of permit applications for vacation home rentals. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details…
Tonight, the Twentynine Palms Planning Commission will meet to review and discuss appeals filed against additional permits for Vacation Home Rentals (VHR). Public hearings will be conducted regarding three VHR permits.
The first VHR permit appeal, regarding a permit for 5580 Palo Verde Avenue, was filed citing a concern around “increased noise.” The second property, located at 69301 Cottonwood Drive, faces an appeal concerning “increased traffic and noise.”
The third VHR permit, for the property at 4694 Hooktree Road, is facing an appeal for several reasons, namely: child safety, a decrease in property values, increase in law enforcement activity, a decrease in available affordable housing and the creation of a commercial atmosphere in a residential neighborhood.
The commission will also conduct a study session on additional restrictions and regulations for VHRs and likely draft a recommendation for the City Council. The meeting will take place at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall, 6136 Adobe Road. The meeting can also be live-streamed and viewed on-demand via the city’s website, 29palms.org.
