Twentynine Palms Planning Commission looking at ADU’s at Tuesday’s meeting (9/15)
The goal of the changes is to make it easier for people to add Accessory and Junior Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) to their properties. The plan includes the introduction of pre-approved ADUs in three different design styles to make permitting easier as well as an increase of the number of allowed JADUs and ADUs in some zoning areas.
The changes would also allow people maintaining a previously disallowed ADU to apply for a permit without suffering impact fees for code violations, excepting safety violations. But there is one major restriction on any of these new ADUs, and that’s a rental agreement of at least 30 days for any tenants. This restriction aims to prevent people from using the dwellings as a short-term rental property.
The Planning Commission will discuss all these changes at 5 p.m. tomorrow night at the Twentynine Palms City Hall, located at 6136 Adobe Road. Anyone is welcome to attend.
