TWENTYNINE PALMS PLANNING COMMISSION DISCUSSES A LIQUOR LICENSE

Alcohol and sushi is on the agenda at tonight’s meeting of the
Twentynine Palms Planning Commission. Reporter David Haldane explains…
Does beer and wine go with Japanese sushi? The owners of Yamahana Japanese Restaurant on the 71000 block of Highway 62 in Twentynine Palms think it does. The final decision, though, will be up to the city’s planning commission which will hold a public hearing on the matter tonight.
A staff report recommends that permission be granted, despite the fact that the census tract in which the restaurant is located already contains one more active liquor license than permitted under a state Dept. of Alcoholic Beverage Control formula. The city should override that formula, the report urges, because alcohol served along a commercial highway will have arguably less impact on neighboring businesses than if the establishment moved to another area.
Tonight’s meeting gets underway 5 p.m. at City Hall on Adobe Road.
