On Tuesday night, May 5, the Twentynine Palms Planning Commission held its regular meeting on-line. Reporter Hilary Sloane has the specific details of that meeting…
The Twentynine Palms Planning Commission met online Tuesday, May 5. After hearing public comment for and against a short-term vacation rental in the Indian Cove neighborhood at 6784 Pine Spring Avenue, the commissioners granted the owner a rental permit. Indian Cove is a 450-home residential area with seven permitted vacation rentals and one pending. Three residents objected to noise, traffic, trespassing, the number of vacation rentals in the area, and described short-term rentals as hotel use. The planning commission reminded the residents that vacation rentals are residential properties that are not considered hotels. The Commission made a note to continue to stop unpermitted rentals and suggested to the public that there is a process for changing the development code if they want to eliminate short-term rentals in neighborhoods.
The commissioners then reviewed the removal of development fees from properties adjoining National Park Drive between Cactus Drive and Mara Drive. The fees for specific plan development, road development, and processing fees were added before the requirements were completed through state grants and local monies. The commission approved the amendment to waive the fees.
