The Twentynine Palms Planning Commission meeting last night lasted only half an hour. With no time wasted, Chair Greg Mendoza, introduced their newest member, Max Walker. City Manager Frank Luckino discussed the first item on the agenda regarding the downtown rezoning. Luckino said that during September of last year, Project Phoenix designated all properties as public. Rezoning some of these properties to commercial will expand Project Phoenix. The vote was 4-0 with Commissioner Jim Krushat absent. Next on the agenda included adding an axe-throwing business in the General Commercial and Tourist Commercial land use district, which was also a unanimous vote. Owners of this new business idea, Chuck and Bridget Wilcox, attended the meeting and were excited to begin their first step to starting their new business. Lastly, Luckino gave an update on Project Phoenix and said he hopes it starts in late 2019.
