About 10,000 Marines, sailors, and British Royal Marines will participate in one of the largest exercises ever in Marine Corps history in Twentynine Palms the first week of November. The Marine Air-Ground Task Force Warfighting Exercise, or MWX 1-20, is an unscripted exercise to see how the 2nd Marine Division conducts combat operations against an opposing force with similar capabilities, played by the British Royal Marines. Both the U.S. and British Marines will be using technology such as unmanned aerial surveillance, and electronic and cyber warfare. The Marines will be equipped with laser-based equipment that will register when a Marine is hit by enemy fire, and the units will have to treat and transport the casualties. A Marine Corps spokesman said MWX will be unlike any exercise held at the Combat Center.
