The man who pleaded guilty to murder in the shooting of a Twentynine Palms man more than four years ago was sentenced to 28 years in prison Thursday. In the early morning hours of October 15, 2015, Manuel Garcia, 31, entered a home in the 5500 block of Abronia Avenue and shot and killed Patrick McGee, 32. He then fled the scene, but was located in Palm Springs and arrested for McGee’s murder. Garcia’s plea of not guilty by reason of insanity was overturned when a court-appointed doctor found him competent to stand trial. Garcia accepted a plea bargain September 18 to murder and an enhancement of using a firearm. On Thursday, Judge Rodney Cortez sentenced Manuel Garcia to 25 years to life for the murder with an additional three years for using a firearm in the commission of the murder.
