TWENTYNINE PALMS MAN SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER CONVICTION

The man who was convicted in February of attempted voluntary manslaughter and false imprisonment for attacking a woman who came to his apartment in Twentynine Palms in December 2011 to sell him a magazine subscription, was sentenced to 8 ½ years in prison Friday. Jayme Gibbs, 35, beat the victim and choked her with a lamp cord after she refused his sexual advances. A neighbor heard her screams and called police, who found her naked and bloody on the living room floor. Judge Michael Dest sentenced Gibbs to the upper term of 5 ½ years for the attempted voluntary manslaughter charge and 3 years for the false imprisonment charge, to be served consecutively.
