TWENTYNINE PALMS MAN HELD AFTER HE RAMS ANOTHER CAR

A Twentynine Palms man who caused a car crash was arrested Saturday afternoon after he rammed one of the victim’s cars while trying to escape. According to a Sheriff’s report, two men were driving their vehicles in adjacent lanes southbound on Adobe Road about 10:40 a.m. when Kurtis Sims, 32, pulled out from Raymond Way into the number one lane of southbound Adobe Road. In order to avoid hitting Sims, the man who was driving in the number one lane merged into the number 2 lane, and was rear-ended by the other driver. Sims left the scene, and the second driver followed him to a liquor store in the 4900 block of Adobe Road where he confronted Sims. According to the report, Sims did not want to give his insurance information to the victim, and he allegedly rammed the victim’s vehicle with his car before leaving again. After an investigation, Kurtis Sims was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $50,000. Sims has convictions for misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon in 2010; robbery in 2004, and burglary in 2003.
