The Twentynine Palms man who pleaded guilty to shooting another man almost four years ago was sentenced to 22 years in state prison Thursday. Raymond Burney, 55, was arguing with Wayne Kerr, 55, in the 6300 block of Palmview Avenue when Burney pulled out a gun and shot Kerr in the upper chest. Kerr was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Burney was on supervised probation at the time of the murder for a 2011 conviction of possession of cocaine base for sales. Judge Bert Swift sentenced Burney to 11 years for voluntary manslaughter, one year for assault with a firearm, and 10 years for an enhancement of using a firearm, to be served consecutively in the state prison at Chino.
